Christie lives with her grandfather in the peaceful setting of Mount Martha. One day she discovers that there is a monster living in the nearby creek. She doesn't tell anyone but she watches it, day after day. One afternoon, after a heavy storm, Christie and her grandfather go exploring in their boat. The water in the creek is moving faster than usual. The monster follows them. 'Help!' Christie shouts to her grandfather. Then the monster crashes beside them.
